To Food Stamp, or NOT to Food Stamp: That is the Rationing Question

“I want to see the manager.” I said.

I was standing in front of the counter at my local grocery store, and I was totally confused. No matter how much the guy behind the counter kept saying, “Well, that’s your food stamp total, you did get your ten dollar off,” that’s not what I saw. What I saw on the screen was $53.10 total, and $3.67 cents tax, which comes out to $56.77, NOT $70.15 which is what he said I owned him. It was “buy 50 dollars worth of groceries and get $10 off your purchase” day at Shop & Save.

“I still don’t get it–how can I owe $70.00 dollars when the screen says my total is $53.10?” I was trying pretty hard to buy just enough items to add up to just $50.00 so that I could get the discount. The lady standing behind me…agreed. We were both looking at the same figures.

“Yes, you did…you got fifty dollars, but you cannot claim milk on that.”
 ***
The guy kept bringing up the food stamp total. Food stamps. He kept saying the words “food stamps.” Why? I was paying cash. When Obama said he was going to bring change, who knew it would be in such simple things as my grocery bill?

It use to be, the screens were set up for cash, and those with food stamps would hand them over to the cashier—no more. They have set up the machines in my neighborhood, very EXPENSIVE screens I might add, for FOOD STAMPS. If you are paying cash, you cannot figure it out. The totals on the screen while you are standing at the counter are tallying up your food stamps cost.  If you are paying cash…you have no idea what is going on.

The food stamp people have become the norm at my local Shop and Save and the customer that is paying cash is clueless to the screen, in fact he doesn’t exist anymore…only when you get your actual receipt.

“You’ll see it on your receipt” said the cashier.
 ***
The manager came over..and I started talking, “I still don’t get it. I’ve been shopping her for over five years, and the total came to fifty dollars and I should have had to pay forty….”
“Well, you had milk. He showed me the ad in the paper which said: cigarettes, alcohol, and milk were not included in the ten dollar sale.”

To which I said, “This is completely unrelated to the fact THAT I WAS NOT ON FOOD STAMPS!”

He seemed sorry. My bill had come out to $80 dollars, and I did get my ten dollars off, he said. Okay, if that’s the deal, THEN SHOW MY ITEMS ON THE SCANNER! I want to see my total: $80.00 plus tax! ON the screen!”

But they don’t. ONLY the food stamp totals are on the big screens in front of your face….you, dear honest citizen of the New World of Obama and freebies, YOU are not as important as our food stamp customers.

Looking up food stamps I found that in Missouri, food stamps are the norm. So, who can get food stamps? You have two ways…don’t work, or be an immigrant, and remember, even the cops can’t ask you if you are illegal, so that opens the doors to more than a few million getting free food.

It seems every immigrant in the world can get them. Refugees, Asylees, deportees, Cuban, Haitian, Amerasian, (Now there’s a new word!) Hmong, or Highland Laotian tribal members who helped during the Vietnam era, American Indians born in Canada, (?) members of Indian tribes, parolees, battered spouses, and last but not least…veterans. As far as I can see, the veterans are the only ones who SHOULD be able to get them. What did all those other people do for us?

Oh…if you are an immigrant and are blind and disabled you can get food stamps too. They probably even throw in lobster on Fridays.

The key word here is: RECENT…Immigrant. No wonder they all want to come here. Food Stamps!

Okay, many of us are having a big problem with food prices…so it really burns us that so many people are eating for free while we pay not only for OUR big bills, but for theirs too.

I used to think paying $8.00 for a small roast was expensive. Today, that same roast cost $19.50. And I tell you what, I don’t believe it’s just due to the price of oil, do you?

You can Shop now, but you don’t Save.

So what happens next? All I can think of is that in WWII…many things were rationed. The government gave out coupons, and stamps for sugar, or whatever food you would get. This also happened with clothes and gas.

Nobody thinks they want to go back to those days.

I find it very, very disturbing that these machines, are set up for “food stamps” instead of regular cash. It’s as IF they are expecting to once again, in the near future…ration food for us all. In other words, the guy with cash will have to go get government food stamps if he wants to eat. The government will once again, be able to ration food.

And you know what? They won’t even have to start WWIII to do it. It will…just happen.
Like all the malls disappearing…who would have thought?

Glenn Beck was right. Start piling up…if you can— or marry an Indian born in Canada. Remember, if some day food is being rationed because of some “crisis” …the machines were already here.
