Nobody Gets Email: What We Spend Protecting Other Countries

Nobody Gets Email

Here’s a few graphs from the CATO institute…showing one of Rand Paul’s pet peeves: the money we spend protecting other countries:

  1. If America spent just one tenth of the money on reducing taxes on business so that more jobs could be offered to men (and stopped subsidising women and minorities) there would be no need to push young men into the armed forces and throwing its weight around.

I understand the problem that an unpeaceful world presents, as much as the next brilliant man, but I fail to see how that is solved by having a military so vast and profligate, interfering with countries on the other side of the world who squabble amongst themselves.

America appointed itself as the ‘World’s Policeman’. 900 bases are scattered all over the world. Vast amounts of American taxpayers’ money (as well as even vaster amounts borrowed from God knows where) and vast amounts created out of thin air by the Federal Reserve counterfiet machine, to pour where? Into the brothels and bars of furrin cities?

And when the ‘inventory’ of phenomenal machines have production costs and production lines that demand feeding and ‘sales’, those tardy and parsimonious ‘allies’ are obliged to buy the damned things at the expense of their own technical industries and manpower. (Why does Australia have an Air Force the size of a modest flying club? Why does it always have to buy last decade’s end-of-production run aircraft from the US at huge cost? Enormous cost. Crikey the American Government leans hard even forcing Oz to buy helicopters that have been sitting in your aircraft graveyard for ten years and then want Oz to use them in foreign wars against people who have never lifted an eyebrow at Oz.)

And of course your ‘home’ organisations seem to want to play soldiers too, equiping police forces with an arsenal of terror that can only be used withing fifty miles of YOUR back garden. I wonder just how much of that “44%” of the world’s military spending is in fact directed to the local official gangsters of the ‘Homeland Security’. Wonderful techology, those Drones, especially the cameras and the rockets. Ideal for traffic duty. The odd Tornado touchdown nearby is just accident of nature, but the drone strikes coming to a neighbourhood near you very soon….?

I have great sympathy for the American taxpayer. Almost as much as I have for the Australian ones, and the British etc. So many Governments taking, wasting, oppressing and demanding more, just so they can do what we took several hundred years trying our damnest to stop Princes and frigging Kings doing.

  2. There comes a point where data can be easiily dropped on one’s own foot.

Can you imagine the guffaws if the “Sopranos’ showed a scene where Pauli demands more protection money from a restauranteur because “Tony gave me a pay rise so the cost of not burning your shop down and breaking your legs has risen”.

My admiration for the good heart and strong back of the American soldier is unfortunately countered by the very data you show us. Just what the hell is America doing spending so much money? YOUR money.

The only hopeful part of the pie chart is that the 44% is a decline from the well-over 50% of a few years back. America then, all alone, spent as much as all the rest of the world combined. And is still scared of China !!

America’s military spending is excessive. Let us hope what it buys will not be turned on Americans quite soon, just to keep the cash-flows going. But I won’t ‘drone’ on about it.

    • Well…then again, there ARE hardly any jobs for those men here at home…so it does make you wonder. If they closed down all the bases, where would all those men get work?
