Hey, Cut Steve Tyler Some Slack
Nobody Knows
What in the world is the big deal about Steven Tyler’s rendition of our National Anthem? Really. He’s a ROCK singer. His voice is shot from screaming at the top of his lungs for decades. Anyone who has ever tried to sing over ear-shattering decibals of electric guitars, miked drums, and massive PA systems, not to mention, screaming fans, should cut the guy some slack.
As far as I can tell, he was trying hard. His scream was because he doesn’t have the capacity to HIT that note, and so, he just screamed, as he does often, to cover up the fact that his voice is just shot.
Unlike all the women in the last few years…he got the words right…and for that he’s a patriot.
Really. And, that doesn’t mean he can’t judge good talent. He knows enough..good god.
He had more than paid his dues, and his voice is shot, because he was singing long ago, before technology gave the singer the advantages that it does today, and that’s why I’m shocked his vocal chords have lasted this long. I wouldn’t want to see his vocal chords up close…I can guareentee you it would not be pretty.
As Gene Simmons would say: At least he sang it live…it wasn’t taped.

I am a nobody. If the different classes of America were color-coded, I would be in the yucky brown, one rung up from the bottom. I grew up in Naples, Florida and live near the Mississippi River now with my husband and two dogs. I am part of the slowly disappearing middle-class. I was a musician most of my life: drummer/singer/keyboards—but I retired before the plastic surgery flu hit. I have no degrees, which could be a good thing…depending on how you view our educational system. I do have three patents…but that really doesn’t make me a somebody. The one thing that is constant in my life is my OPINIONS, which i have more than perhaps even Carl Sagan could have imagined…mostly political. (yes…my ancestors were crabby buggers)

It’s my Nobody Opinion that Nobody’s Perfect, and Nobody Cares, that Nobody Knows why Nobody Wins, and when that happens, Nobody Wonders, why Nobody Flashes, why Nobody’s Fooled, but then Nobody remembers that Nobody ALWAYS Reports the truth.

I have to agree with you. Let’s face it, we have a National Anthem that is for the most part, almost impossible for ANYONE to sing. We should switch it to America The Beautiful or something that most folks can at least get into the neighborhood with some kind of effort on their part.
This song is just too difficult to sing … period.

When I first read that “Tyler gives one of the worst Anthem renditions ever” I was expecting something outlandishly horrible… like beyond Rosanne Barr limits.
To me the “worst” renditions are the ones who, like the aforementioned celeb idiot, go out of their way to disrespect the Anthem. Tyler didn’t do that. He made his best effort, and, like Joyanna said, he’s a rock singer from the 70’s and 80’s… all in all he didn’t do too bad.
