One Last Time: Hotel California

Nobody Flashes

The incredibly sad news that we lost this sweet, sweet guitar last week…among all the political hatred was a blow. Those of us who never saw the Eagles live (I saw them with Linda Ronstadt, but not when they became the Eagles) will forever know, that the only time I will be able to hear this classic guitar sound is on YouTube.

Glenn Frey. Dead at 67?

Not fair. Too young.

Sit back, turn off the lights, grab a beer, especially if you still have electric, and sink your sometimes tormented soul, once again…into the Hotel California.

He pretty much explained it all.

  1. Wow! You are getting REALLY good at those video’s snopercod! That was great to watch, and a version that I had never heard. It fit the view on the ground perfectly.

Glen Frey was the guy in the black tee-shirt, he switched on and off from electric to acoustic guitar, depending…

And yes, I had to sing a lot as a drummer, it’s one of the reasons I always had work, over other drummers. They didn’t have to get a girl singer.

BUT…playing the drums and singing Michael Jackson wasn’t even I can tell you….as his music always had a lot of bass drum work going on. Someday I’ll find an old tape of me doing that…and have it the blog. .

Thanks again for the great video!

  2. Man, that was great. Those guys were really good. I hate to be stupid, but which one was Frey? I was so impressed that the lead singer could also play the drums at the same time as singing the lead. Could you do that, Joy? I’ll bet you could.

But their music will live on. Here’s a tail-cam video of my flight from near Palm Springs to Tucson…speeded up and set to Hotel California in Spanish by the Gipsy Kings. Ole!
